Visharu Adavu, or more popularly known as the "Tha Thai Thai Tha" Adavu is the 3rd set of steps in Bharatanatyam. There are 5 different variations in this adavu. These are frequently used in a lot of Nritta choreography.
The sollukattu (सोल्लुकट्टु) or Rhythmic syllables of Visharu Adavu is - Thaa Thai Thai Tha
Here is the video tutorial of the 1st step of Thaa thai thai tha -
Place both hands in Pataka Gesture palms facing up in front of your chest
Change both hands palm facing forward to Tripata Gesture

VISHARU ADAVU STEP 1 | 1st Tha Thai Thai Tha Adavu
I. Leg Movements
- Hit RIGHT LEG in the same original position (Count 1)
- Lift the RIGHT LEG and hit slightly apart in the right side (Count 2)
- Lift LEFT LEG and place the left toes behing right leg (Count 3)
- Hit RIGHT LEG in the same position as above (Count 4)
- From behind, bring LEFT LEG to original position and hit (Count 5)
- Lift the LEFT LEG and hit slightly apart in the left side (Count 6)
- Lift RIGHT LEG and place the right toes behind left leg (Count 7)
- Hit LEFT LEG in the same position as above (Count 8)
- Repeat steps 1-8 again
II. Hand Gestures (Hasta Mudra)

III. Hand Movements (to be done along with leg movements)
Part I (Right side)Place both hands in Pataka Gesture palms facing up in front of your chest
- Stretch out the RIGHT HAND (palm still facing up) forward
- From there, stretch the RIGHT HAND to the right side.
- Stretch the RIGHT HAND to the back. (look behind at your hand)
- From behind, bring the RIGHT HAND back in front of your chest in Katakamukha gesture.
- Maintaining Katakamukha with the right hand, stretch out the LEFT HAND (Pataka + palm still facing up) forward
- From there, stretch the LEFT HAND to the left side.
- Stretch the LEFT HAND to the back. (look behind at your hand)
- From behind, bring the LEFT HAND back in front of your chest in Katakamukha gesture.
Change both hands palm facing forward to Tripata Gesture
- As you move to RIGHT SIDE, gradually take LEFT PALM forward while keeping right palm in front of your chest (takes 4 beats)
- As you move to LEFT SIDE, gradually take LEFT PALM back while taking RIGHT PALM in forward (takes 4 beats)
